Why You Shouldn't Repeatedly Search For Your Own Ads On Google

Once you have set up your AdWords campaign, you should hold off from repeatedly searching for your ads on Google.

I know that it's good for the ego to see your ads in those top three positions, but let me explain a little further.

Every time you search for your own ad, but don't click on it, this affects your click through rate detrimentally, and hence your quality score, which determines just how much you will pay and what position your ad will appear in on Google search.

However, there is a way in which you can see your ad without harming your quality score.

If you login to your AdWords account, under the Tools and Analysis tab, you will see Ad Preview and Diagnosis. If you click on this, you will be able to search for all your keywords and to see just where your ads are appearing on the Google search, without harming your click through rate.

Traffic For Your Lovely New Website!

So you've just had your company website redesigned, and it looks absolutely brilliant! You've also paid to have the site Search Engine Optimised, in the hope that you will get to the top of the Google search rankings for your most popular keywords.

But even with the best SEO management, getting ranked in Google and other search engines can take quite a while, with no guarantee that you will stay in that elevated position, or even get on the first page.

So what can you do? You want traffic and you want it now!

Well, the most immediate and effective way of getting traffic to your website is to use paid search marketing. This is also sometimes known as pay per click or AdWords, as even though your advert may show thousands of times during the day, you only actually pay when somebody clicks on your advert, and goes through to view your website.

But what's really fantastic about AdWords, is that people are actually searching Google at that moment using the keywords you selected, for exactly the product or service that you are providing! So for instance, if you run a flower shop in Bristol and someone is searching Google for a "flower shop in Bristol", your advertisement featuring your website could be appearing in front of them on the first page of Google! And we all know from using Google ourselves, that the searcher will very rarely go beyond the first page, so it's really important to be in that position.

So if you are serious about beating your competitors and promoting your website, you seriously need to consider using Google AdWords.

Optimise Your Meta Description

By John Chablo

Meta Descriptions – 156 Characters or less – this is your first sales pitch to your customer.
These should effectively communicate who your company is, what you do, and why the customer should go in to your site. Do not write these for search engines because they take a back seat to the title tags, and they can make you look ridiculous. Which of the following would entice you to enter the website:
Tag 1: Evan’s Shoe Store, walking shoes, dancing shoes, work shoes, sleeping shoes, girl shoes, boy shoes, man shoes, red shoes, blue shoes all shoes, shoes, SELL ALL THE SHOES, shoes…shoes
Tag 2: Evan’s Shoe Store specializes in all footwear types. We have both casual and athletic shoes available, and our friendly staff will help you find the perfect size and style, visit us soon!
Both of these descriptions were 156 characters. One promotes footwear in a professional and effective manner, the other looks like it was written by a pushy door-to-door salesman with Tourettes. A friendly, readable description with a good call to action is key to success.

Should I Use Google AdWords?

Well, should I be using Google adwords? The answer of course, is it depends on what you are trying to achieve.

If you're trying to get a lot of traffic to your website very quickly, then Google adwords can be an extremely useful resource. Once you've set up your account and started it, you can then potentially start getting a massive amount of traffic to your website straight away.

So you've set up your adwords account, and you're achieving loads of impressions and clicks. You got to be happy with that right? Again, it depends how you set up your account, as to whether the impressions and clicks you are getting are truly relevant.

Are your keywords full of broad match types? If so, you may be wasting a lot of money on gaining clicks that you don't really want. Unfortunately it's very easy for the novice to fall into this trap, as the Google default keyword is set on broad match. So unless you know what you're doing, and use modified broad match, or phrase and exact match, your adwords account could be bleeding money. Your money.

Talk to us. We can set your account up properly. Critical Mass Marketing
